BRG Open Golf Championship Danang 2022 is the 4th time an Asian golf event has come to Vietnam.

VIETNAM HAS HOSTED MANY MAJOR TOURNAMENTS

In the past, Vietnam has been the destination for top tournaments organized by the Asian Tour. There are tournaments such as Carlsberg Masters 2004 and 2005, occurred at Chi Linh Star golf course. Or Ho Tram Open 2015, the event featured the world's top golfers such as Robert Rock, Darren Clarke, Sergio Garcia, Geoff Ogilvy, Thomas Bjorn.

Sergio Garcia won the Ho Tram Open 2015.

However, despite being a large-scale event with exceptionally professional organization, the above tournaments couldn’t help the development of golf in Vietnam. Because at that time, in Vietnamese society, golf was still labeled as a playground for the elite, those with a high status and is financially abundant. Therefore, in spite of the Vietnam Golf Association’s great effort, golf wasn’t considered a true sport in the country back then.

But that was the story of 5 or 6 years ago, now the standing of golf in Vietnam has shifted. With many new golf courses being built, along with the practice costs being reduced significantly, the number of golfers in Vietnam has increased rapidly. Currently, Vietnam has more than 60,000 golfers, this number is 4 times higher than 2015. Along with nearly 100 golf courses that have been put into operation, it is enough to show the outstanding development of golf in recent times.

In addition, tournaments are also held regularly and year-round in large-scale, elevated professional quality and qualified organization. Especially, the introduction of the professional tournament system by VGA Tour, includes events with a prize fund of 1 billion - 1.5 billion VND (equal to the tournaments by the Asian Development Tour), has helped the golf industry in Vietnam reach a new heights.

A NEW MILESTONE - BRG OPEN GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP DANANG 2022

Most recently, Vietnam has also successfully organized Golf at the 31st SEA Games and received great praises from audiences in the region. This is the foundation and jumping-off point for Vietnam to confidently organize significant tournaments in the future and the BRG Open Golf Championship Danang 2022 here in Danang will be one of those events.

As part of the Asian Development Tour (ADT) system, BRG Open Golf Championship Danang 2022 is the 4th time an Asian golf event has come to Vietnam. This is a great honor and also the result of the unremitting effort, as well as the cooperation of the whole community in developing golf in Vietnam.

The first time being held in Danang, the tournament will be accompanied by the title sponsor - BRG Group, along with the patronage of the Vietnam Golf Association. It is expected that BRG Open Golf Championship Danang 2022 will have the participation of 144 international and Vietnamese professional golfers, including 01 ProAm tournament and 03 official rounds. The tournament format is similar to the top events in the world. This will give Vietnamese golfers the opportunity to experience and get acquaintance with the professionalism of a leading regional tournament. Along with that is the opportunity to compete and rub shoulders with talented golfers from all over the world. Vietnamese golf fans will get a glimpse of how a regional professional tournament is organized and played out.

In addition, with the event occurs during the 2022 Danang Golf Tourism Festival, the tournament is also a great opportunity for Danang City in particular and Vietnam in general to promote its image to international friends. This is the time when the whole golf community needs to join hands to prove why Vietnam is continuously voted as “Asia's Most Attractive Golf Destination” and “World's Most Attractive Golf Destination”. Only then can Vietnamese golf have a place on the World golf map, as well as expect bigger tournaments of the Asia Tour, DP World Tour or PGA Tour to come to Vietnam in the future.

Mr. Mark Reeves - Director of golf business development of BRG Group shared: “I think this event is not only a stepping stone for BRG Group but also a springboard for Danang, as well as Vietnam on the journey to reach out in the world. For now it is the ADT's tournament, but perhaps in the future it might be the biggest professional golf tournament in Asia Asian Tour. From this tournament we will find the stars of the Asian Tour and we hope that the world's top talents will come to Danang as well as Vietnam to compete in the near future.”

Obviously, in the context of Vietnamese golf continues to expand and develop, tournaments like the BRG Open Golf Championship Danang 2022 will be a great boost for golf tourism, a bridge which will help the Asian and Vietnamese golf to connect, and to support Vietnamese professional golf develops their orientation.
