Thailand - The strongest team at SEA Games 31st

Thailand brought the best golfers to Vietnam with the ambition to win all 4 gold medals at the 31st SEA Games.

At the SEA Games, Golfers from Thailand have always been considered the top candidates for the prestigious gold medal. Simply because compared to other countries in Southeast Asia, Thailand has a highly developed golf industry with tournaments that are constantly being held, therefore golfers in the land of the Golden Temple always have the opportunity to practice and go against the top athletes in the world.

Thailand always dominates in Golf at the SEA Games.

In recent SEA Games, Thailand is often the country with the most gold medals in Golf. Typically, in 2015 they won all 4 gold medals in both individual and team competition. Two years later, at the 29th SEA Games in Malaysia, Thailand only lost one gold medal in the men's team competition to golfers from Singapore.

However, at the 30th SEA Games in 2019, Thailand only won one gold medal in the men's team competition. For the first time after four consecutive SEA Games, they let the host Philippines take the number one position in Southeast Asia. This can be considered an unforgettable failure and a valuable lesson for Thailand golf in all the past SEA Games.

Coming to the 31st SEA Games, Thailand golf team is determined to win all 4 gold medals to regain their throne as King of Southeast Asia. And to achieve this, Coach Preecha Senaprom has brought to Vietnam some of the best golfers in Thailand at the moment. Among them, the most notable athlete is definitely Ratchanon Chantananuwat - who currently holds the 7th position of WAGR.

Ratchanon Chantananuwat won championship at The Trust Golf Asian Mixed Cup

For those who follow the Asian Tour, this 15-year-old guy is not an unfamiliar face. After the return of the Asian Tour at the end of November last year, Ratchanon made a strong impression. First thing we need to mention is the third place of the Thailand golf prodigy at Singapore International, a tournament attended by Paul Casey.

Next is Saudi International - a tournament that brings together all of the world's biggest golf stars like Dustin Johnson, Bubba Watson or Xander Schauffele, the young Thailand golfer showed his astounding skill when he rank 71st overall.

Soon after, Ratchanon returned to Thailand to attend two consecutive tournaments. After being tied at 11th position at the International Series Thailand, Ratchanon Chantananuwat's reputation turned a new page when he won the Trust Golf Asian Mixed Cup - a tournament co-organized by the Asian Tour and the Ladies European Tour.

In addition to Ratchanon Chantananuwat, 3 other male athletes of the Thailand team are also top golfers in the Golden temple’s land. In particular, the most notable face is 17-year-old golfer Pongsapak Laophakdi - who has won championship at the Thailand National Amateur Championship twice and is ranked 309 on WAGR. Weerawish Narkprachar and Arsit Areephun are also in the top 800.

Natakrita Wongthaveelap is Thailand's hope in female league.

Meanwhile, in the female league, although they did not bring their best golfers to Vietnam, the Thailand team is still a force to be reckon with. The most notable is Natakrita Wongthaveelap who has won 3 titles on the Thailand LPGA Tour. Natakrita Wongthaveelap is also Thailand's second to best female amateur golfer, ranked at the 72nd position on WAGR.

Competing alongside with Natakrita Wongthaveelap is Eila Galitsky, a 15-year-old golfer who has won the U.S. Junior Championship twice when the tournament was held in Thailand. And last but not least is Pimkwan Chukaewg who holds the 560th position in the world.

With all these honorable names, Thailand will most definitely still be considered the strongest team at the 31st SEA Games, which will take place at Heron Lake Golf Course & Resort (Dam Vac) from May 13th to May 18th.
